This was my 2nd attempt at this TT in the Riding Dirty Series. After the first TT I felt I needed some redemption. :) I stared first and was basically the snow plow for the event. My times reflected that, and being the competitive guy I am I felt I could do a lot better. I figured this week I would change my front tire to a BIGGER tire. "FAT ALBERT 2.35" I tuned my bike the night before and was feeling good. I took Friday off as a rest day from my stair running;”Unlike the prior race, spent 3 hours at gym on that Friday doing a high intensity workout". So, my goal for this TT was to win. GONG. Goes to show when you race ANYTHING THAT CAN GO WRONG, WILL GO WRONG. Woke up feeling good on Saturday, although it was -7 that morning, I knew it wa

Well.. Where to start? I guess I will explain what a Vertical Mile is.. Most people just see the word "mile" and think.. Whatever, I can run a mile.. (I did) lol. A mile is 5,280 feet.. So, a vertical mile would be the same distance, but straight up. Most steps are about 9inches high. So basically it translates into between 8000 and 9000 steps pending on building. Only other big factor is that their just are not any buildings a mile high. "To my knowledge" So to achieve a mile it requires going up and down a few times.. In the case of THE CAREW it's 804 steps to the top x10 = 8,040 steps + 8 floors and 6 steps... So total up steps = 8,190 steps up = 1mile of vert.. keeping in mind this requires running down this amount of stairs.. So, total number of stairs is 16,380. One mile up and one mile down..

This year is my 4th time participating in the Iceman Cometh Challenge. For some of you who are not familiar, it’s a Point to Point mountain bike race in Michigan. “Kalkaska to Traverse City” the course is mainly snowmobile trails and very sandy forest roads, a few pieces of single-track mixed in and a few short and steep climbs. This course is a screamer! Not technical at all! You can fly on this course! This course has been labeled a 27mile race but has never clocked it less than 28 miles. This year the Garmin read 29.19 miles. I made the trip up to the race with Bill this year, as we both were representing Kentucky in a State point Race. Last year we both went out to represent KY as well. We both had good rides! This year I trained for the race specifically.
