Biography:

Timmy "Mini" Tyrrell began racing Go-Karts at the age of four.  Mini started racing at the Old Dominion Speedway in the middle of the 2009 season, competing within the Kid Kart I Series.  In his first season, Mini raced a "top kart," built and crewed by his father, Timmy.  Despite his late entry into the competitive season, Mini quickly took to the track, finishing third overall in his series.

Mini returned to the track in 2010 driving a Bandit Kart in the Kid Kart II Series, and was once again crewed by his father. Mini accelerated quickly within the series, displaying his driving capabilities and securing several first place finishes.  Mini ended his 2010 season by finishing second overall in points for the series.

Go-Kart racing has proven to be just the beginning for Mini as he has also undertaken numerous other athletic ambitions since beginning his racing career at the young age of four.  Mini is also very passionate about Karate, and has discovered talents for ice skating, skateboarding, and baseball.  Mini strives to be the best he can be in every athletic endeavor he pursues.

Inspiration:

What is quickly apparent upon meeting this young athlete is his mature understanding and appreciation of the value of competition.  Mini not only draws his inspiration from those around him, but is a source of inspiration himself.  Mini has been known to provide words of encouragement to his fellow racers, as well as the occasional thumbs-up in the middle of a race.  Just as Mini has shown that he thrives under the pressures of competition, his maturity helps him keep things in perspective as he always goes the extra mile to help others.

Specifically, in an effort to support the Jeffrey Virostek Memorial Fund, a component of the Northern Virginia Community Foundation and in affiliation with the Angel Kisses 5k Run/2k Fun Run and Walk, Jeffrey Virostek lost his battle with leukemia in 2003 at the age of 4, and a Memorial Fund in Jeffrey’s name was created for the purpose of assisting families fighting cancer.  For more information on this annual event, please visit http://www.angelkisses-5k.org/.
